    Principal Letter

    Hello Mercer Families,

Just before our mid-winter break our Mercer students were able to celebrate their hard work during the 1st semester at our ABC Dance and Activity Day. Our students had a lot of fun!

Student Led Conference Exit Tickets are due to Social Studies teachers by Wednesday, February 28.

Thank you for supporting our Student Led Conference process. We hope you and your student had a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the  strengths of your student and talk about next steps related to their learning.

    School Safety

On a more serious note, we continue to share in the grief following the Florida school shooting. We are also inspired by the advocacy of the students and support their efforts to ensure this type of incident never happens again.

Safety is a top priority for all of us. At Mercer, our students have practiced and know our safety drills for evacuation, lock downs, earthquake and shelter in-place. As a staff, we continue to work to strengthen all of our safety plans, this includes our response to an active shooter. You can help us be stronger:

    1. Please reinforce to your student(s) how important it is to immediately follow directions of staff when we are implementing safety drills.
    2. Please reinforce to your student(s) that safety drills are a necessary function of schools.
    3. As a community it is important that all adults, parents/guardians, visitors check into the main office, get permission from office staff, and sign-in.

As we transition back to learning from break, we have 6 weeks of uninterrupted instructional time. Please help us maximize learning by reinforcing on-time attendance and making sure students power off and put cell phones away!

    Go Mustangs!

    News & Info

Asa Mercer International Middle School Visitor Policy

Visitors Must Report to Main OfficeWe are very appreciative of your partnership. We welcome our parents and guardians into school, yet to ensure the safety of all we must follow the procedures of school visits.

    • All adults, including Mercer families and non-Mercer students, are not allowed in the building during the regular school day without permission.
    • To gain permission, all visitors are expected to report to the main office, communicate school business with office staff, and be cleared by office staff to sign-in and gain permission.
    • Adults or students violating this policy may be trespassed.

Please remember this is a safety issue. Thank you for your cooperation!

Mercer Electronics & Cell Phone Expectations

Please refer to page 12 of your student’s planner. Cell phones are expected to be powered off and put away upon arrival to school until the dismissal bell. No Cell Phones

    • Many students manage this really well. Thank you!
    • Yet many students cannot manage cell phone use.
    • Instead of focusing on learning, some students are spending time on Snap Chat, taking pictures, and texting.
    • Please talk with your student about your family expectations.

We spend hours upon hours each week solving conflicts that generate from apps like Snap Chat, etc.

After School Activities, Session #2 Begins March 5

Session #2 begins Monday, March 5. Please visit our website to get registration information and to see what activities and opportunities are offered.

Morning and Afternoon Procedures and Expectations

Our campus officially opens at 8:15 am. This is the time when we have staff on duty for the supervision of students. Students should not be arriving to school before 8:15 am. Upon arrival before 8:25 am, students are expected to report to the cafeteria. Hallways and lockers are closed until our 8:25 am dismissal from the cafeteria.

Similarly, students are expected to be picked up and off school grounds 10 minutes after our dismissal bell. If students are waiting for rides, students are expected to wait near the parking lot outside of our south A building.

We are seeing an increase of students “hanging out” after school without supervision. Unless your student is in an after-school activity with an adult he/she cannot be on campus. Please review your families’ afternoon plan.

We would love to have students stay after school as part of our after-school activities beginning March 5!
