    Principal Letter

    Dear Mercer Families,

Welcome to the 2017-18 school year! As we begin to settle in and work toward supporting our students’ success, I want to take a moment to highlight systems we use toward strong school and family communication. Knowing whom to contact, staying up to speed with the events and activities, and being aware of student progress are all keys to student success and component of strong school and home partnership. Below are systems we use to as ways to communicate and stay connected to your student’s learning.

    Monthly Newsletter

At the beginning of each month you can access a monthly newsletter. The purpose of the newsletter is to capture news and events at Mercer. The newsletter will be linked on our website and go out via email to all Mercer families.

    Mercer Website

Our website it a great place to visit for a range of school information that includes events, activities, and important information.

    Source and Schoology

The Source is a great resource for students and families for viewing academic information including grades, test scores, and attendance. Schoology is an electronic platform that allows students and families to interact with teachers regarding specific things related to a class. For example, school assignments. Parents/Guardians must first be logged onto the Source to receive an access code for Schoology.

    eNews

This electronic communication of events and activities will go out to families via email. To sign up for this twice monthly events and activities eNewsletter please click this link.

    Whom to Contact?

For classroom questions or concerns please connect with your teachers via email or by phone. Contact information is posted on our website. If you have other questions or concerns regarding academic information, scheduling, discipline, or health concerns please do not hesitate to connect with your grade level administrator, counselor, or school nurse.

    Athletics

Participating in athletics is a great way to meet new friends, learn new skills, and compete in the athletic arena. Fall sports begins very early this season and many students have not yet been able to fulfill the requirements. In order to participate in athletics, students must complete and meet the following requirements:

    1. Complete the registration process. Forms are available on our Mercer website.
    2. Complete a Physical. Must be completed prior to your first game of the season. Physicals are good for 2 years.
    3. Academic requirements. Students must earn grades C or higher and in good behavior standing in order to be eligible for game play.

Fall sports include Girls Soccer and Co-ed Ultimate Frisbee. Co-ed frisbee began Friday, September 15, and meets M, W (2:45-4:45), F from 4:00-5:15 pm. Girls soccer meets Monday and Tuesday, September 18 & 19, but regularly meets Tuesday and Thursdays, 3:55-5:15 pm. Games occur on Saturday. Please visit our district website for schedule information: www.seattleschools.org

Activity bus transportation does not begin until October 2nd when our full after school activities schedule begins.

    Advanced Learning for 2018-19

If you would like your child to be enrolled in Spectrum classes or a part of the Highly Capable Cohort, passing the Advanced Learning test is required. Two important website platforms used at Mercer are the Source and Schoology:

    • Schoology is Seattle Public Schools’ learning management system. Here teachers may post classroom assignments and messages to students.
