    Mercer Principal Letter, April 30
    Posted on 04/30/2021

    Dear Mercer Families,

As we continue to adjust to our new schedule with some students in person and others fully remote, we are learning more each day.

    In Person Attestation:
    • We have streamlined our process and are getting faster each day getting students into classes. The earlier a student completes the attestation form the more likely the data will be shared with the school (it's a 20 minute process before it is updated in the system). Additionally, students can show a screenshot on a mobile device with the green "check mark."

Attendance is now to be taken twice every day for each period – once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Students will be marked absent if they do not participate during afternoon instruction.

There are three reasons that attendance has shifted to this model for the remainder of the school year:
    1. The governor’s proclamation required all schools to provide an option for in-person learning to students, and all in-person learning requires this attendance documentation,
    2. Most of the instructional day is now in the afternoon, and
    3. We want to keep families informed that student participation is expected.

You can learn more about the Seattle Schools expectations for attendance here.

We will continue to provide flexibility for students, families, and educators when it comes to attendance and will take steps to reduce any negative effects of attendance taking during this school year, particularly for those students who need accommodations.

If you have questions about attendance, please contact our Attendance Specialist, Ms. Kolner at 206-252-8004 or

    Food Services & Meal Support:
Students participating in in-person learning should plan to eat lunch prior to arriving to campus. Meals are available for students to take away between 10:45-1:15 pm each day and at the end of the day for the next day. You can learn more about meal support here.

Ramadan Kareem to those families participating in Ramadan. Please know if your student(s) need support or accommodations during this time (adjusted deadlines, more time, etc.) teachers are more than willing to support our students and families during this time.

The Mercer Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is rescheduling the PTSA Community Meeting originally scheduled for May 12 as it conflicted with Eid, celebrated at the end of Ramadan. The NEW meeting date is Wednesday, June 2 from 6:30-8:30 pm. Please mark your calendar! All families are invited to this final Community Meeting of the year. More details and a Zoom link will be sent to all families closer to the meeting.

Additionally, the Mercer PTSA Board & Volunteer Working Meeting originally scheduled for June 3 has been rescheduled to Thursday, June 10th from 6:30-8:30 pm. If you would like to receive the Zoom link for this meeting, please let us know at
