    Dear Mercer Families,

This week we honor and recognize Veteran's Day. We are grateful for those in our community who have served our country and community throughout our history. Our social studies teachers continue to guide students through conversations about the presidential election and are working hard to create a safe space for students to engage in meaningful conversation.

    No School on Wednesday
As a reminder, there is no school on Wednesday, Veteran's Day. This includes all activities, small groups, library book pick up and meal service. All activities will resume on Thursday, November 12.

    First Quarter Grades
This week teachers are finalizing grades for First Quarter and they will be available on the Source next Monday. As educators we always want student grades to represent learning and specifically, what students know and are able to do in their work towards articulated standards.
We recognize that this is an unusual school year and we are approaching our grading practices with grace and understanding while at the same time encouraging students to work to their highest ability. Our teachers understand that students are experiencing challenges, barriers and circumstances that may impact their ability to fully engage in school. If at any time, you or your student has a question about a grade in a course, please contact the teacher directly. We want to work with you and meet all of our students where they are at during this time.

    Affinity Group Principal Engagements
Finally, I continue to offer different opportunities for family affinity group meetings and parent coffees. These are an opportunity to ask questions and learn about the work Mercer is doing in a smaller setting. All meetings will occur via Teams and the link to join is pasted below.

In October, I endeavored to host a meeting for Black families, but my communication fell short and in the process we created more barriers for families than opportunities. I have rescheduled the meeting for Tuesday, November 24 and changed the process to join meetings. No longer is preregistration required. I hope you will join me.
