    Library books

    Dear Mercer Families,

This Wednesday from 11 am - 7 pm we are inviting Mercer students to pick up library books, math work books (for students in 6th, 7th or 8th grade math - not Algebra or Geometry) and school planners.

Mercer students should always have at least two independent reading books in their possession for ELA (English-Language Arts) class. Most students should be reading about a book per week on average.

    Selecting books
Students have different places they can get a book for their ELA class, like Seattle Public Library eBooks called Libby, Hoopla (graphic novels) and Mercer Library.
For Mercer library books, students use the Mercer online library catalog called Destiny Quest to put Mercer library books on hold. A video about how to put books on hold is on most teachers Schoology pages and also on the Mercer website.

    Picking up books

We fill Mercer library holds (takes about 2 days), check the books out to the student, and bundle them for pick up. There are three places students and families can pick up Mercer library holds:
    • Mercer lobby Mon-Fri, 11am-1pm and Wednesdays 5-7pm This week only books are available at Mercer from 11 am - 7pm.
    • In front of Van Asselt Community Center (New Holly), Wednesdays 1-3pm
    • Outside Rainier Community Center Wednesdays 10am-12pm

If a student wants to change their pick up site, they email their ELA teacher or our Literacy Assistant Principal, Brigid Addanki, at bmaddanki@seattleschools.org.

Knowing if a Mercer book is ready
The surest way to know of your Mercer Library books are ready is for students to log in to their Destiny account and see that the book is “Checked out.” Only checked out books are actually ready for pickup.  There ARE cases where we filled the hold with classroom library books and it will not show in Destiny. In those cases we email the student directly via Outlook.

Students should check both Destiny and their Email accounts to see if books are ready!

Please contact your student's ELA teacher with questions about independent reading books.

    Go Mustangs!
