    Dear Mercer Families,

We have had a great first week back from the winter holiday. I want to take a moment and update you on a few important upcoming dates and events.

    6th Grade Expert Expo

    January 14, 2020 (Tuesday) - 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

    • The annual 6th grade Expert Expo is an opportunity for 6th graders to share their "all about" informational books with families and our community. Students work to create all about style books about a topic they are passionate about. The books are generally 3-4 chapters long with introductions and text features embedded in their books. On the evening of the expo, families visit student "stations"to learn from students about their topic.

    Martin Luther King Jr. Day

    January 20, 2020 (Monday) - No School

    • There will be no school in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. on January 20, 2020. Mercer will celebrate Dr. King on January 22, 2020.

    End of First Semester

    January 29, 2020 (Wednesday) - No School

    • Students are working to wrap up their work for the first semester. As a reminder, there will be No School on January 29 (Wednesday). Second semester begins on January 30.

    Second Semester Schedule Changes

    • Due to an increase in student enrollment we are making some adjustments to our second semester master schedule. This will result in many students having schedule adjustments for second semester. We are currently working to minimize the impact on students and will be communicating with students and families about any changes to their second semester schedules in the upcoming weeks.

    Screenagers Movie

    January 30, 2020 (Thursday) 6:00 p.m. Mercer Auditorium

The Mercer PTSA is sponsoring a free showing of the movie "SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in The Digital Age" on Thursday, January 30 at 6:00 p.m. in the Mercer auditorium. We would like to extend this invitation to your students and parents. Attached you'll find a flyer and parent discussion guide with links to resources. Please ask families to register for the event.

“SCREENAGERS" is the first feature documentary to explore the impact of screen technology on kids and offer parents and families proven solutions that work. What started out as a personal story for one has grown into a national movement, helping millions of teens and their families navigate growing up in a world with instant access to screens. Mr. Anthony Malaki, the Mercer 6th Grade Counselor, will emcee the event.

All families and caregivers are welcome to attend, but the content is most suitable for children 10 years and older. Children must remain with adults at all time. Childcare is not provided. Carpooling is strongly encouraged as there is limited parking available at Mercer and on the neighboring streets.

We will show the follow-up film, "SCREENAGERS: Next Chapter," in March at Mercer.
