  • Dec. 2016 Newsletter

    Dear Mercer Families,

We hope you are doing well as we near the holiday season. We often refer to the A, B, C success indicators in school. Attendance, Behavior, and Coursework or grades are indicators we measure that often reflect the success of our students.

In November, we passed the 1st quarter of our school year. Almost all of our students were able to celebrate their hard work at our Fall ABC & Tardy Dance & Activity.

  • Nov. 2016 Newsletter

Dear Mercer Families, The end of our first quarter is Thursday, November 10th. In celebration of all the hard work of our students we will be celebrating, here at Mercer the last part of our school day, with our ABC & Tardy Dance and Activity. In order to participate student grades must be in good standing (A, B, or C) and have no more than 3 tardies between October 24 and November 10. The grade level with the best results will be dismissed first.

  • Introducing Library Link

    Dear Mercer Students and Families,

We have very exciting news to share! We are launching a great new partnership with Seattle Public Libraries to give every Mercer student access to many great resources.

Although public library cards are available for all students in Seattle Public schools, many do not take advantage of this resource for a variety of reasons that include ease of access and the potential for fines on lost or overdue materials. The Seattle Public Library and Seattle Public Schools are working together to overcome these barriers so students and teachers can access online websites and databases to support student learning. This fall Asa Mercer International, Aki Kurose, and Denny International middle schools will participate in a pilot program to provide this access.

  • Traffic Information

We understand the challenges that exist when picking up and dropping off students to school. Nonetheless, it is really important to follow all laws and procedures when picking up and dropping off students at Mercer. Alternative locations to consider include Jefferson Park, Snoqualmie Ave. or west of Mercer along 14th Ave. There are safe walking trails and crosswalks students have access to and this may prevent the long wait you might be experiencing in our parking lot or along Columbian Way. Thank you for your cooperation.

  • October 2016 Newsletter

    Dear Mercer Families,

Thank you for helping to make our start of the school year smooth. One important part of the development of children during the middle school years is building strong and productive academic habits. You can get an early jump start by developing and supporting routines that are predictable and habit forming. For example, at this point, our students are familiar with our routines like getting to class on-time, knowing our structures of learning and what to expect when class begins, and how to use their composition books and planners, etc.

  • Math Parent Toolkit Night

  • September Newsletter

Dear Mercer Families, Welcome to the 2016-17 school year! As we begin to settle in and work toward supporting our students’ success, I want to take a moment to highlight systems we use toward strong school and family communication. Knowing whom to contact, staying up to speed with the events and activities, and being aware of student progress are all keys to strong school and home partnerships.
  • District Robo Call Tonight

Tonight you will receive an automatic call informing families that robo calls are being reinstated this year to give families updates about Seattle Public Schools information. Families may opt out of robo calls if they choose. Tonight's call will remind families to make sure phone numbers and email addresses are updated. Verification forms are going out tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 16); please check them carefully and make any necessary corrections.
  • FERPA Form and the Yearbook

Every year, our 8th grade students produce a beautiful yearbook that includes school pictures of students and staff. We want to make sure that every student who wants to be in the yearbook is in the yearbook. Parents and guardians, when you fill out your student's FERPA form, if you choose B (I do NOT consent to the release of the above directory information), you may selectively OPT IN to your student's inclusion in specific publications by circling YES to the options you choose.
